Why Is CARB-approved Important For Powersports Vehicles?

Prior to purchasing a powersports vehicle – such as a motorcycle, ATV, UTV, scooter or go-kart – it is important to become familiar with CARB-approved issues and how they could affect you.

CARB is an acronym for the California Air Resources Board, an agency in that state which focuses on emissions associated with small power equipment engines. The regulations are designed to improve air quality by only approving engines that release reduced levels of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

California residents are required to purchase powersports models that are CARB-approved. In addition, at least 14 other states have adopted the CARB standards, including Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington and the District of Columbia.
